Par Latviju
Latvia is one of Europe’s great “get away from it all” discoveries. With 12,310 rivers and 3,000 lakes the country has many opportunities for boating and walking and just enjoying the outdoors. There are many small medieval towns, country castles, and museums and folk parks to be visited.
Other areas of beauty in Latvia include the national park region around the River Gauja, the remote lake lands of Latgale, and Courland, site of the most spectacular piece of civic architecture in the Baltics. Rundale Palace, built by the architect of the Winter Palace in St. Petersburg B. Rastrelli.
Riga is one of the oldest cities on the Baltic Sea. Business people once used to call Riga “the Eastern Hamburg”, whereas romantic-minded people referred to it as “Little Paris”. Like any other ancient city marks of numerous turns of history of Riga are visible in its image. Riga is perhaps the most exciting city in the Baltics. Unlike its neighbouring capitals of Tallinn and Vilnius, which retain the atmosphere of small towns, Riga actually, feels like a major European city.
Many famous people: composer Richard Wagner, the philosopher Jesija Berlin, film producer Sergej Eizenshtein, violin master Gidon Kremer, soprano singer Inese Galante, ballet artist Mihail Barishnikov and many others have drawn their roots and inspiration in Riga.
When arriving in Riga you will also be able to feel its creative spirit, and you will desire to return as anybody who has ever visited this wonderful City.
